ANNOUNCING AUDITIONS FOR THE 2017-18 DENVER JAZZ CLUB YOUTH ALL-STARS

THE DJC YOUTH ALL-STARS ARE LOOKING FOR DEDICATED HIGH SCHOOL TENOR SAX, TRUMPET, TROMBONE, GUITAR OR BANJO, PIANO AND DRUM SET PLAYERS!

WHEN WILL AUDITIONS TAKE PLACE? Sundays (6:30-9pm), April 2nd, 9th and 23rd, at Kolacny Music Studio (28 E. Jewell Ave, Denver [Behind Kolacny Music Store at 1900 S. Broadway]). Call-backs, if needed, will take place on Sunday, April 30th.

WHAT EXPERIENCE IS NEEDED? Intermediate to advanced jazz experience is preferred.

MONTHLY CLINICIANS: Retired UC-Denver Music Professor Bill Clark, tuba player/leader of the Queen City Jazz Band, is a regular clinician. Additional professional jazz musicians do clinics from time to time as well.

REHEARSALS: Weekly rehearsals take place at Kolacny Music Studio, from 6:30 until 9:00 pm, each Sunday. Some holiday weekends and a few other Sundays may need to be skipped.

PERFORMANCE GIGS? We feature this all star-band during each monthly Denver Jazz Club session, professional jazz festivals, and performance gigs throughout the area. The Youth All-Stars will be performing at the 2017 Evergreen, Denver Vintage, and 2018 Sacramento Jazz Festivals! We are planning to perform in New York City during the summer of 2018.

SCHOOL CONFLICTS? No performances or rehearsals conflict with school activities.

COST: Each selected student will be required to become a member of the Denver Jazz Club ($10 yearly fee). The monthly dues (4 weekly sessions) run $140, and are payable at the start of each month.

WILL PAID GIGS REDUCE FUTURE TRIP COSTS? Any money the band is paid will go towards future trip expenses.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE? The Denver Jazz Club does have financial assistance available for students who need help with monthly dues and/or private jazz lessons.

Sunday, February 19 – Mardi Gras with the Queen City Jazz Band & Guest Artist Clint Baker

The Queen City Jazz Band will be featured on the Sunday, February 19th Denver Jazz Club Mardi Gras Session at Westminster Elks Club (3850 Elk Drive). This band has been playing Mardi Gras music for nearly 60 years! Leader Bill Clark plays tuba, with Kevin Bollinger, trumpet; John Bredenberg, reeds; Eric Staffeldt, trombone; Hank Troy, piano; Rory Thomas, banjo; Tony Pantelis, drums; and singer Wende Harston. Don’t miss this very special event!

Guest artist Clint Baker is an extremely versatile musician. He performs on trumpet/cornet, trombone, clarinet, guitar, banjo, tuba, string bass and drums!!

There will be complimentary Louisiana-style gumbo, and the club will even supply the beads! Performances will take place from 1:30 until 5pm, with the Denver Jazz Club Youth All-Stars and the UC Denver Claim Jumpers alternating on abbreviated sets during the breaks of the Queen City Jazz Band.
