The May-June Denver Jazz Club Newsletter is Here!

The May/June 2015 Denver Jazz Club Newsletter is now available for download.

There is info on the May 17th performance of Vern Baumer and the Mile High Jazz Gathering. Clarinetist and vocalist Vern Baumer has been active on the Denver jazz scene since 1970. Vern has worked with Big Tiny Little, the Summit Ridge Jazz Band, the High Sierra Jazz Band and the Wild Bill Davidson Legacy Band, with Tom Saunders. He has even played in the famous Washboard Concert at Monterey’s Jazz Bash by the Bay. Joining Vern for the Denver Jazz Club performance will be Kevin Bollinger, trumpet; Ed Stephen, guitar; Rory Thomas, banjo; Bobby Green, piano; Bill Blackman, bass; and Bill Watkins, drums.

The newsletter will also cover the performance of the Poudre River Irregulars on Sunday, June 21st. Noted for their exuberant energy and sound musicianship, they draw much of their inspiration from Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton, but play a wide variety of traditional jazz, from ragtime through the classics of the twenties and thirties up to early swing. Founder Bob Cooke retired in 2010, and the band’s current “regular irregulars” include leader Len Kellogg, trombone; Dave Dale, bass; Oscar DeZoto, drums; Ray Leake, piano; Charlie Smith, trumpet; Rory Thomas, banjo; and Clark Burnside, clarinet.

May-Jun 2015 DJC Newsletter

You will also find columns by Walt Hewitt, Peter Robinson and John Sobott. The Adams County Historical Society’s D-Day Remembered Celebration is announced, along with the results of the recent 2015-16 DJC Youth All-Star auditions.

Say, do you want an easy way to help out the club? It’s simple – just give us your email address! The club can save up to $2,000.00 in expenses simply by emailing the newsletter instead of printing and mailing it. For those of you who have already supplied us with your email address, THANK YOU!
